Origem - Estabelecido como Reserva Natural Integral em 25-05-1963

Classificação - Parque Nacional, II, desde 25-06-1970.
Localização - Está situado na província de Malanje.

Área - Ocupa 630 km².

Limites Geográficos - 09 09' a 10 02' de Latitude Sul e 16 34' a 16 52' de Longitude Este.

Limites Naturais - A Norte e Nordeste o Parque é delimitado pelos rios Camifundi, Cuije e Caculo. A Sul pelos rios Maubi, Candua e Camifundi. A Leste e Sudueste pelo Rio Caculo e Rio Cuije, Dumba Kicala, Picada Calamungia, Dumba Kicala, Maubi Calongo até aos rios Cuque e Lussa.

Descrição - A pluviosidade média anual é de 1350 mm e a temperatura é de 21,5°C. Não existem grandes cursos de água e a vida gira em torno dos charcos e lagoas que se formam durante a estação das chuvas.

A vegetação é composta por floresta aberta e savana seca.
A descoberta em 1963 da palanca negra gigante (Hippotragus niger), levou à criação do Parque Nacional da Cangandala. Actualmente, desconhece-se quantos exemplares poderão ainda existir.
