Origem - Estabelecido como Reserva de Caça a 06-04-1935.
 
Classificação - Parque Nacional, II, desde 11-12-1957.
 
Localização - Província do Moxico.

Área - Ocupa 14.450 km².

Limites Geográficos - 11 17' a 12 30' de Latitude Sul e 20 45' a 22 36' de Longitude Este.

Limites Naturais - O Parque é limitado a Este pelo rio Zambeze, a Sul pelo rio Luena e a Oeste pela linha do Caminho de Ferro de Benguela, que o atravessa a Norte.

Descrição - A pluviosidade média anual é de 1145 mm e a temperatura é de 20,8° C. Os rios Zambeze, Luena e Chifumage, além dos charcos formados pelas chuvas, alimentam o Parque.

Os mamíferos mais abundantes são o gnu ou boi-cavalo, Tsessebe (Damaliscus lunatus lunatus), lechwe (Kobus leche), chango (Redunca redunca), javali (Phacochoerus aethiopicus), leão e onça.
