Origem - Estabelecido como Reserva de Caça a 16-04-1938.
 
Classificação - Reserva Natural Integral, IV, desde 11-12-1957.
 
Localização - Está situado na província de Malanje, entre os rios Luando, Cuanza e Luasso.

Área - Ocupa 8.280 km².

Limites Geográficos - 10 14' a 11 56' de Latitude Sul e 16 26' a 18 04' de Longitude Este.

Limites Naturais - Limitado a Norte pelo Rio Luando, a Sul pelo limite da Província de Malange entre os rios Cuanza e Luando e a Oeste pelo Rio Cuanza até ao Rio Luando.

Descrição - A pluviosidade média anual é de 1350 mm e a temperatura é de 21,5° C. Existem dois tipos de vegetação dominante: floresta aberta e savana com árvores e arbustos.
Os mamíferos mais abundantes são o puku, lechwe (Kobus leche), palanca negra gigante (Hippotragus niger) e a inhala (Kobus ellipsiprymnus - cabra de água). O Parque de Luando é também conhecido como o paraíso das aves.
